What are you seeing?

“There are many little ways to enlarge your world. Love of books is the best of all.”

Jacqueline Kennedy

Seizing opportunities is often a function of what you see/recognize, and your ability to act in a timely fashion. One proven way of enhancing your sight and shaping your perspective is by reading.  I would highly recommend an intentional reading plan as you maximize the second half of 2024.  It’s good to have books you come across and read, but it’s even better to have a plan of books you intend to read and read them.  Lastly, don’t just read to tick the box.  Read with intentionality – to understand, to reflect and extract learning points, and to apply any relevant learnings.

With that in mind, there are five books I would like you to consider having on your reading list, as you explore and take advantage of opportunities in the 2nd half.  I really struggled to keep it to 5, but eventually I used the ‘frequent’ questions I have received from readers to shortlist five themes and suggest a book for that theme.

So here goes:

Planning & Execution

The ONE Thing:

The surprisingly simple truth behind extraordinary results

Gary Keller, Jay Papasan

Learn to develop actionable plans and a structured approach that moves you from thought to action.

Finances

The Psychology of Money:

Timeless Lessons on Wealth, Greed, and Happiness

Morgan Housel

Understand the underlying motivations that shape your financial decisions and, ultimately, your financial reality.

Future Trends / Artificial Intelligence

Fusion Strategy:

How real-time data and AI will power the industrial future

Vijay Govindarajan, Venkat Venkatraman

Great book that breaks down the AI revolution’s practical implications and potential, particularly how it could shape industries.

Innovation / Business Strategy

Disruption Dilemma

Joshua Gans

Excellent review of the literature on disruption and innovation, with practical ideas on how to predict it, manage it, and leverage it.  If you resonated with my session at the Platform on Pattern Recognition, then this is a must-read.

There you have it! Ultimately, our capacity to see is a function of what we feed our mind. So be intentional in feeding your mind with quality material.

Which of these books will you be reading? What other books would you suggest on these topics?

Yours in possibilities,

TKO
